BASIC THINGS TO PACK BEFORE A TATRA HIKE
There are numerous hikes that you can undertake in the Tatras. First of all, you should always plan a hike that is best matching your physical capabilities. The Tatras are beautiful mountains, but you must carefully estimate your possibilities. An important factor to consider is the weather, which changes frequently and reaching into higher Tatra altitudes, it will get much colder than in the valley. Consider good shoes to protect your feet and appropriate dress with more layers. Forget about an umbrella in the Tatras, without a proper raincoat you will be lost. It is always reasonable to pack an extra T-shirt and pullover to change, should you sweat while ascending. Finally, sunglasses and sun protection lotion should be also in your backpack before climb in the Tatras.
LEAVE A NOTICE ABOUT YOUR TATRA GOAL
Before you leave the hotel, leave there a notice, where are you going. In some of the Tatra hotels, they have special guest books to mark your hiking plans.
INSURANCE IN THE TATRAS
You should also check, if your travel insurance would cover a rescue operation, should you be in a trouble. No kidding, broken leg means very often a Tatra helicopter trip and someone has to pay the bill. Why not insurance company rather than you! If you are not sure about the insurance, you may get day insurance in the Tatras.
