TATRA HIKE OF THE MONTH

SEE THE TATRA MOUNTAIN LAKES

Pleso lakes are typical mountain glacial lakes; you find about hundred of them in the High Tatras. They were created from the melted water of the glacier that once covered the area of the High Tatras and actually molded the U shaped Tatra valleys.

One of the most beautiful hikes in the High Tatras is the hike to the Green pleso glacial lake. Take a funicular from Tatranska Lomnica to the Skalnate pleso lake (1751 m), enjoy the views of the Lomnicky Peak (2634 m), which is the second highest peak in the Tatras. From here ascend along the red-marked Tatranska Magistrala path to the Svistovka Saddle (2023 m) and descend down to Green pleso lake (1551 m) in the valley. The Brncalova Cottage is a place to rest and enjoy a refreshing lunch. Return along the yellow and blue-marked paths to Tatranska Lomnica.

This hike is a difficult one; please make sure you have good shoes and appropriate dress for this trip. Alternatively, you may consider just walking to the Green Lake along the yellow and blue-marked paths from Tatranska Lomnica and returning on the same way. Or just make a trip by funicular to the Skalnate pleso lake?
